Emily Primm, Counselor

licensed clinical social work associate

I help kids, teens, & young adults who are struggling with big emotions, anxiety, depression, behavior, or difficult transitions learn how to manage what they’re feeling, build confidence, and navigate life with greater ease.

Specialties:

  • Anxiety & Worry- Overthinking, frequent worries, fears, avoidance, feeling overwhelmed, & difficulty calming down when something feels scary or uncertain

  • Depression & Low Mood- Sadness, irritability, withdrawing from family or friends, loss of interest, low motivation, & feeling discouraged or stuck

  • Emotional Regulation- Big emotions, frequent meltdowns, frustration, impulsive reactions, difficulty calming down, & needing support identifying and expressing feelings in healthier ways

  • Social Skills & Relationships- Difficulty making or keeping friends, navigating conflict, communicating needs, understanding social situations, & building confidence in relationships

  • Life transitions- changing schools, family changes, starting a new school, graduating, beginning college or career, & adjusting when life doesn’t look the way you expected

Emily’s Style:

Emily is calm, warm, and playful. She creates a space where kids, teens and young adults can feel comfortable being themselves. She isn’t afraid to be silly, and believes therapy doesn’t always have to mean sitting still and talking…sessions might include games, art, play, or listening to the latest Taylor Swift song.

i believe

Sometimes growth means understanding your feelings. Sometimes it means learning a new skill. And sometimes it simply means having a safe place to be yourself while you figure things out.

  • You don’t have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. We can start exactly where you are and figure it out together.

  • Big emotions aren’t bad emotions. Learning to understand what you’re feeling can make those emotions feel a lot less overwhelming.

  • There’s no one “right” way to do therapy. We can talk, play, create, practice new skills, and discover what works best for you.

  • You are so much more than what you’re struggling with.

  • You have so many strengths! We’re going to figure them out together!

  • Behavior often tells us something. Getting curious about what’s underneath the worry, frustration, shutdowns, or big reactions can help us understand what you really need.

  • Learning new skills takes practice. Therapy is a place to try, make mistakes, learn, and keep growing without expecting yourself to get it right every time.

  • You can learn to handle hard things. The goal isn’t to never feel anxious, sad, angry, or overwhelmed. It’s to feel more confident knowing what to do when those feelings show up.

  • Growing up comes with a lot of change. You don’t have to do it alone!

“There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.”

What it’s like to work with emily

In our sessions together, we’ll meet big feelings and hard moments with curiosity, build on your strengths, & discover what helps you feel more confident being you.

I believe kids, teens, and young adults grow when they have a place where they feel safe, understood, and free to be themselves. I bring warmth, curiosity, and a little playfullness into the therapy room, while helping clients understand their emotions, recognize their strengths, and build skills for navigating the hard stuff.

My lived experience coupled with personal growth and professional training make me uniquely effective.

When I am not serving clients, you’ll find me taking my dog on long walks or spending time with my loved ones. I also enjoy thrifting and checking out new coffee shops. I go to the beach whenever I can!
