About Be Still Holistic Counseling & Wellness

At Be Still Holistic Counseling & Wellness, we offer thoughtful, effective counseling for women and girls throughout North Carolina. Many of the clients who find their way to us are living with the effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic stress, or significant life transitions. Others arrive feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or quietly lost, even when life appears “fine” on the outside.

If you’re longing for a steadier sense of meaning, connection, or emotional clarity, you’re not alone.

We understand how frustrating it can feel to keep trying without lasting change. Talking with friends helps for a moment. Books, podcasts, and even consulting AI can offer insight, but the relief doesn’t last. As women, there’s often an unspoken expectation to figure it out, to stay capable, intuitive, and strong. And yet, sometimes that strength becomes isolating.

Our approach to counseling is down-to-earth, relational, and deeply human. We honor the connection between mind, body, social experience, and, if desired, spirit. Healing, we believe, happens best in care that feels unhurried, thoughtful, and personal. This is a space where you don’t have to have it all together, where vulnerability is welcomed, and where meaningful healing can begin.

From our office in Cary, North Carolina, and through secure telehealth sessions offered statewide, we meet clients where they are. We create space to slow down, reflect, understand what has been carried, and begin to move toward clarity, peace, and wholeness.

Rooted in Cary, Serving All of North Carolina

Our Cary office offers a cozy, welcoming environment designed to feel calm, safe, and grounded. For clients who prefer or need flexibility, our HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform allows us to work with women and girls across North Carolina, including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Apex, and surrounding communities.

Wherever sessions take place, care is offered with intention and steadiness. Our work is grounded in research and shaped by real life, with thoughtful attention to pace, privacy, and the realities of daily demands. Whether in person or online, counseling is designed to feel supportive, accessible, and genuinely attentive.

A Holistic, Whole-Person Approach

We approach counseling through a holistic, whole-person lens. Rather than focusing on a single concern or diagnosis, we consider how emotional, physical, social, and spiritual experiences interact and shape everyday life. Our philosophy is simple: healing happens through wholeness and connection, not fragmentation.

Mind

We support emotional understanding by helping you notice thought patterns, emotions, and internal responses with greater clarity. Using research-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed care, and insight-oriented work, we support resilience, mindfulness, self-understanding, and a healthier relationship with your inner world.

Body

Emotional experiences and trauma in particular often live in the body, even when we aren’t consciously aware of them. Through mindfulness-based practices, somatic awareness, and nervous system support grounded in polyvagal therapy, we gently uncover how stress, trauma, and emotion are held physically. When appropriate, gentle movement may also be incorporated. This work supports steadiness, regulation, and a compassionate relationship with your body, rather than working against it.

Social

Well-being is deeply influenced by relationships and connections. We explore patterns within family, friendships, work, faith communities, and broader support systems. This includes attention to communication and relational stress, and to identifying where connection feels nourishing and where change may be needed.

Spirit

We integrate the best of science with compassion, collaboration, and, when invited, the wisdom of faith. We value your feedback throughout the process and work collaboratively to ensure care continues to meet your needs.

For clients who desire it, faith-integrated Christian counseling is available. Spiritual perspectives are introduced gently and thoughtfully, guided by your tradition, comfort level, and goals. Faith is never assumed and is always client-led. Whether faith is strong, uncertain, or not part of your journey, you will be met with respect and care.

What to Expect

Beginning counseling can feel vulnerable, and it’s common to feel tempted to “suck it up” and handle things on your own. At Be Still, we’ve designed our process to feel simple, clear, and unpressured. Counseling isn’t about fixing what’s broken; it’s about creating space for peace, freedom, and new ways of living that feel lighter, more grounded, and genuinely life-giving.

  • You’ll begin with a brief 15-minute conversation with our Care Coordinator. This is a time to share what you’re experiencing, ask questions, and learn more about our approach. Together, we’ll consider next steps and help match you with a therapist who feels like a good fit.

  • Once you begin counseling, your therapist will take time to listen and understand your story. Care is shaped collaboratively, with attention to your goals, history, values, and pace. We believe meaningful progress happens when therapy is tailored, not rushed.

  • Counseling unfolds over time. Sessions may include reflecting on recent experiences, identifying emotional or relational patterns, building insight, and developing tools that support lasting change. We aim to offer a balance of steadiness and thoughtful challenge, walking alongside you as understanding deepens.

Our Founder

Be Still Holistic Counseling & Wellness was founded by Kristin Nakhla, LCSW, out of a desire to create a counseling space that feels steady, thoughtful, and genuinely human.

A Note from Our Founder:

I never thought I’d be a counselor. I certainly thought I’d own a group practice.

I cannot separate my personal story from the story of Be Still. In 2017, after several years of walking alongside my own family during the deepest suffering I’ve ever witnessed, I felt a strong call from God to help others navigate similar experiences. At the time, though, while I had earned a Master’s Degree in Social work a decade earlier, I wasn’t licensed here in North Carolina. I was a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling my boys. I didn’t want to go back to work. But God…

God strategically placed people in my life who would help me step into what He had planned. Bernie Bernstein, co-owner of the Holly Springs Counseling Center, “happened” to be my son’s soccer coach. At the end of the season, I discovered that he and his wife, Nancy, were counselors. They graciously offered supervision and guidance, helping me begin my career in North Carolina. Over the next several months, I began working at Heartland Hospice while taking the necessary steps to open my own private counseling practice (“Kristin Nakhla, Therapist”).

In June of 2018, I was officially in business. Over the following years, my practice grew slowly but steadily. There were many bumps in the road. I’ve made countless mistakes, and it wasn’t always pretty. Yet, I remain in awe of God’s presence in every detail.

Fast forward to 2022, and the vision for a fully-integrative group practice became clear. I dreamed of creating a place where women and girls could receive holistic care-mental, physical, social, and spiritual. Transitioning from a solo practice to a group required a new name. After many failed attempts, I prayed and reflected on God’s work in my life. And then it dawned on me…Be Still. For years, His message to me has been clear: Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10) and The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still (Exodus 14:14).

In the fall of 2023, I opened our Cary office and welcomed my first phenomenal colleague, who embodies the vision I had for this practice. Since then, we’ve added more amazing team members who passionately share our mission, vision, and values. This dream is just beginning to come to life, and by God’s grace, I will continue to nurture it until it reaches full bloom. Let’s be honest, I could never do this alone. Be Still was founded by God for His glory. I am simply grateful to play a small part.

Blessings to you on your healing journey!

Why Clients Choose Be Still

We’re not a clinic. We’re a locally owned, relational practice rooted in Cary, North Carolina, created to support real healing through meaningful human connection.

At Be Still, counseling is not transactional or automated. It is personal, intentional, and grounded in a relationship. We believe that deep, lasting change happens not through text therapy, apps, or AI-driven solutions, but through consistent, thoughtful therapeutic relationships where patterns can be noticed, explored, and gently transformed.

Our work centers on understanding how past experiences, family dynamics, trauma, and long-held beliefs continue to shape present-day thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In this space, insight grows over time, self-compassion deepens, and clients begin to experience meaningful, sustainable change.

Our Mission, Vision, and Values in Practice

Our mission is to empower women and girls to live in the present moment with kindness, compassion, and non-judgment toward themselves and others. We support the development of an independent identity rooted in intrinsic value and worth, while helping individuals identify their core values and live in alignment with them. Through this work, we aim to foster lives marked by truth, balance, wholeness, and freedom mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually.

Our vision is to be a premier holistic wellness center to enhance the mental, physical, social, and spiritual wellness of women and girls in North Carolina.

Care will integrate the best of evidence-based practice with the wisdom of Christian faith upon request. Our practice will include an integrative team of Counselors, Mindfulness Teachers, Medication Prescribers, Dieticians, Functional Pharmacists, Neurofeedback Practitioners, Spiritual Directors, Trauma-informed Yoga instructors, etc.

Our values guide how we show up in every interaction:

Holistic care: We believe wholeness comes when there is wellness and balance in all aspects of our lives-mental, physical, social, and spiritual. This includes not only empowering clients to find wellness and balance, but also includes our team finding harmony with their work and personal lives. We will maintain the highest professional standards while also being intentional in caring for our own minds, bodies, spirits, and social lives.

Christian: Our expertise is integrating the wisdom of Christian faith into the best of evidence-based practices. This means we first live out the truth, wisdom, and freedom of the Gospel ourselves before empowering the clients we serve to do the same if they wish. We also honor those who have a different faith, no faith, doubting faith, or strong faith. We serve all denominations, both in the Protestant and Catholic traditions.

Integrity: This includes having a strong ethical culture. We will conduct ourselves with openness, transparency, straightforwardness, truthfulness, and sincerity. We hold ourselves to consistent standards of moral uprightness, honor, excellence, and responsibility. We strive to have an impeccable reputation in the community, both with professionals and clients.

Excellence: We believe in hard work, excellent clinical skills, and five-star customer service. From the first contact with Be Still until the last, we desire both colleagues and clients to have superior support and care. We promote continual learning through formal continuing education and informal research and activities to provide our clients with the very best in clinical and ethical care. Constructive feedback is given and received with humility.

Safety & Non-Judgment: We will create a safe place for colleagues and clients to learn, grow, and heal without judgment. We wish for all of our colleagues and clients to thrive, prosper, and feel connected. We seek to create an anti-oppressive space where all colleagues and clients feel seen, heard, and valued.

A Culture That Shapes Your Experience

Be Still’s culture is rooted in warmth, respect, and authenticity. We believe empowered clinicians are best able to support empowered clients. Our team is committed to thoughtful collaboration, professional excellence, and long-term, sustainable careers in counseling, not short-term or side-gig work.

This culture allows us to offer care that feels grounded and consistent. Clients often share that they feel seen and understood, not rushed, minimized, or reduced to a diagnosis. From the first conversation through ongoing sessions, the experience is shaped by attentiveness, continuity, and genuine care.

Permission to Be Fully Yourself

Here, you are invited to take off the mask.

You don’t need to perform, explain everything perfectly, or have the “right” words. Counseling at Be Still is a space where every part of you is welcome: the strong parts, the tired parts, the faithful parts, the uncertain parts, and the places that still feel tender or unfinished.

This permission to be real is where healing begins.

Care That Leads to Meaningful Change

At Be Still, you’ll receive more than support; you’ll find progress. While healing is never rushed, our work is intentional and goal-oriented. Through insight, skill-building, reflection, and collaboration, clients begin to notice changes in how they relate to themselves, others, and the challenges they face.

Our greatest joy is helping women and girls experience greater presence, peace, clarity, and a stronger sense of identity that supports lasting growth.
